FAQs - Sole Reflexology

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet, hands and face correspond with different areas of the body.  By applying precise pressure to these reflex points, reflexology aims to promote deep relaxation and overall wellbeing.  Reflexology can be effective in reducing stress, which is key in optimizing good health and building resilience.

What happens during a reflexology session?

For your first session I will carry out a full health and lifestyle assessment which typically takes around 30 minutes.  This allows me to tailor the treatment to your individual needs.  After that, you'll relax in a comfortable position while I apply gentle pressure to specific reflex points on your feet, hands or face.  Many clients find the experience deeply relaxing - some even fall asleep!

Who can have reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for people of all ages, from new-born babies to those receiving end-of-life care.  However, there may be times when it is not appropriate to provide treatment.  It's always best to consult with a qualified reflexologist to determine if reflexology is right for you.

Is reflexology a massage?

No reflexology is not a massage.  While both involve touch, massage focuses on manipulating muscles and soft tissues, whereas reflexology targets specific reflex points to help balance the body's systems.  It's about precision and balance, not deep pressure or muscle manipulation.

Does reflexology hurt?

Reflexology should not be painful.  Some areas may feel tender, which can indicate tension or imbalance in the corresponding part of the body.  The pressure applied is always adjusted to ensure your comfort throughout the session.

How should I prepare for a session?

All you need is a quiet, comfortable space where you can relax.  I bring everything required for the session, including towels and any necessary equipment.  Just wear something comfortable, and ensure your feet are clean and ready for the treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on individual needs.  Some benefit from a single session, while others find regular treatments more effective.  We'll discuss a treatment plan that's tailored to your specific requirements.
